ADA COUNTY WOOD WORKERS
Updates From The President
March 11, 2012:
Wow we had a fantastic show this year! 60 entries in all the various divisions. Almost everyone from the club entered their three entries and some even entered more. We had folks from all over the state and even one or two from out of state.
I can tell you, our chosen volunteers that did the judging gave it their all at five hours of work looking at each and every piece. Our new judging sheet helped a lot, but it also showed some areas needed for improvement. This was the first time for this and I want to thank these folks for making it work. They did a great job, well over what was expected from them. I personally think they took the job more seriously than any of the other club judges. Of course I may be prejudiced.
I am going to try and get together with our judges and perhaps a few others that participated to try and streamline the sheets a little as well as creating some sort of sorting system to allow the next set of judges a little easier time in just what is judged against what. And where the heck is it. A good deal of time was spent just trying to find the pieces after the scores were added up, so that they could get the proper ribbon.
We also had some Fantastic Demonstrators. Don Blasdell being a primary demonstrator over at the Woodcraft area, that did hand cut dovetail joints for the entire time the show was running. I have never seen someone do so many great joints in two days! He had quite a crowd every time I looked in on him. Thank you very much Don for all your hard word setting that up and maintaining the crowds that showed up! We also want to thank Woodcraft for supplying the work bench for Don’s demonstration. They had to make a special trip to get it to us.
And of course our Chance Gatfield whom everyone got a chance to watch, cutting out and assembling the dowel rod snakes at the front door of the Showroom next to the raffle table. Chance took the opportunity to put up a tip cup which he fed to the raffle table items every chance he got. He also contributed quite a few snakes to the raffle, so everyone that ended up with one of Chances snakes, congrats for winning one! Thank you Chance, for putting on such a good show! Thanks to you now a lot of people now know how to make puzzle snakes.
Ron Lee sold a TON of stuff at his sales booth. However he did lose a piece, so next time let’s have a few more volunteers for that area.
NOT to say he didn’t have enough help. Ron said everyone that brought something in stayed around for a while to help. And he even had help from some folks who didn’t have anything in the booth.
The Raffles were great! Thanks to Ken Viste and Chance Gatfield we had plenty of entries for the Raffles, I am sure we had more than just those two so thank all of you for helping out! We also had a great auction as well, we raised over two thousand dollars and that was with
the prices way down from last year. Ask Joe Ziegler, he ended up with one of John Lee’s boxes for only 70 bucks and my donation, which was the first to go, went at only $30.00. So anyone that didn’t come to the banquet really missed out on some great bargains.
Thank you all for a great show; let’s keep it up for next year!
See you all at the next meeting this Wednesday!

February 2012 Meeting:
Michael Kingsley discussed in detail what was needed for the Artistry in Wood Show which was held the 25th and 26th of February. Club members stepped forward, volunteering their time to make for a successful show.
January 2012 meeting:
Hello All –
I have been in contact with the new Potentate of the El Kora Shriners. He has informed me that our meeting once again coincides with their meeting. This time however, they cannot come to our meeting at 7:00 because it is the first meeting of the year and he will be inaugurated at that meeting.
His suggestion was that we hold our meeting one hour earlier and he will be there at 6:00, then take the toys to his inaugural meeting with him. I told him I would contact all our members and let them know the circumstances and call for our club meeting to be one hour earlier this one time so that we could accommodate his organization. After all it’s for the children, so it should be worth it.
I have already talked with Monte at Woodcraft and he is fine with the idea, so I will try and call each and every one of you to confirm our new meeting time in January, but if I miss anyone, I will personally take the toys that miss the 6:00 meeting over to the temple myself the next day. So don’t worry, they will get to the children, it is all just a matter of timing.
If you get this and know of one of our members that didn’t or won’t receive it, or if I don’t have their phone number, Please pass on the information.
I am sorry this is such short notice, I should have been quicker, but with the holidays, it’s been a bit busy around the old homestead.
Thanks to all and have a safe and happy new year!!
Slainte!

2011 Toy Making:
Special Thanks to Diane Echols for donating 2011's toy making supplies! Six boxes of wheels and several other boxes of very usable miscellaneous parts are now available thanks to the very kind donation by Diane.
Also Special Thanks to Alfred Howell and Jim McDonald for the use of their plans in making the 2010 toys. The toy donation was a great success thanks to the entire club's efforts. It looked like we had over a thousand toys to donate!
