COXA
Richard Bone

It is always a pleasure to hear new music from the ubiquitous Richard Bone, a man of many musical hats. His new release, called "Coxa," is in the same general vein as his outstanding "Electropica," a modern ambient take on the Bossa Nova style of the '70's. This time we have a hazy, smoky jazz journey inspired by the classic Creed Taylor/Rudy Van Gelder recordings of the mid 1960's. With a particular nod to the grooves created by the keyboard, bass, drums, and conga line-up of the time, it's a swirling encounter at the intersection of ambient and jazz. "Coxa" has all kinds of melodic invention, catchy rhythms, and space to groove and move. It is on his own Quirkworks label. Bone has also released "Spectral Ships," a recent adventure through dark, ambient spaces, and first for the Hypnos label.
